" To achieve the goal of researching and developing innovative, efficacious, safe, and cost-effective therapeutic products for human disease, " is redundant PharmaEssentia's strategy is focusing on the two business tracks:
1. Revenue-driving projects. (Pharmaceutical Products)
Focusing on producing higher-priced products that take advantage of Taiwan's proven manufacturing expertise. These products include new pharmaceutical ingredients (NPI) and their intermediates, new dosage formulation services, as well as technical support. PharmaEssentia has successfully developed two revenue-driving projects: firstly, pharmaceutical-grade co-enzyme Q10, namely PharmaQ10®, which has already been marketed in Taiwan, Japan, Korea, and Dubai, and also out-licensed to Black Gold Globe of Malaysia; and secondly, a blockbuster anti-cancer drug - gemcitabine, which will be initially sold in Asia in 2009 as an API and as an injectable formulated dosage form (FDF), GemFlor®.
2. Value-driving projects. (Biotech Products)
Focusing on New Drug Research and Development (NDRD), specifically based on PharmaEssentia PEGylaltion technology platform to develop long-acting protein biologic drugs. P1101 (PEG-Interferon-α), for the treatment of HBV/HCV is entering US FDA IND filing, and will undergo Phase I clinical trial in Q1, 2009. The other four PEGylated protein biologic drug projects are P1104 (PEG-IFN-β), P1116 (PEG-EPO), P1118 (PEG-GH), and P1130 (PEG-GCSF), in which the first three are in the preclinical test stage, with two of them beginning clinical trials in Q4, 2009 and Q1, 2010 respectively.
